Coco - A Josef Lorenzl Art Deco bronze figure Vienna, Austria
1930s, depicting a stylish female wearing a sailor hat, the
bronze silver cold-painted, the statue mounted on an onyx base.
This is a very rare model by Lorenzl and only the second
time I have seen the all bronze version (the bronze and ivory
version is unsigned and auction houses usually attribute it to
Prof. Poertzel). The other one was previously owned by the late
author Jackie
Collins and included in the 2017 Bonham's sale but that
example was missing the oar.
The styling is very 1930s, the sailor hat and wide pants
being very popular at that time being worn by the likes of Coco Chanel, Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich.
