Barner- An Art Deco bronze figure, Vienna 1920s, depicting a
young woman in an exotic Arab costume, with a gold, dark silver
and floral enamelled cold-painted finish, mounted on a green onyx
base.
There is no literature on the sculptor "Barner" with sculptures
bearing this signature bearing more than a strong resemblance to
works by Josef Lorenzl...this particular bronze being a reverse of a
ceramic figure Lorenzl designed for Goldscheider in 1923 titled
"Aida" (seen above in number eight) and having the typical Lorenzl
facial features, so I have no doubt this bronze was designed by
Lorenzl. The photograph of the dancer Lore Wigand that the
Goldscheider figure (and consequently this bronze) is based on is
number nine above and was taken at Atelier Willinger in Vienna.
