Alice Margaret Coats (1905 - 1978) A Watercolour Painting of
an Italian Landscape c1937 - Beautifully and delicately
painted, capturing the light and subtle colours of the landscape in
a style very much of its time. Sold mounted and framed .
Alice Coats studied at the Birmingham School of Art and later
the Slade School in London, as well as her linocuts and watercolours
she also illustrated books and is known for her botanical and
horticultural works. In the 1930’s she was taken up by the Redfern
Gallery. Unfortunately due to crippling arthritis her career as an
artist was cut short. Examples of her work are in the collection of
the British Council. A number of her linocuts are in the
Christchurch Art Gallery, New Zealand.
