Alan Heaps (b.1941), Studio Pottery Kinetic Sculpture. c1980’s
A fantasy piece depicting mythological birds riding a lion type beast on wheels with another flying bird which moves as the sculpture is pushed along, in red clay and brass with blue, off white and green glazes.
Alan Heaps (also known as Alan Sidney) studied graphics at the Liverpool College of Art (1957 to 1961) and worked as an Illustrator which no doubt influenced and informed his ceramic sculptures which as well as being architectural are often adorned with animals and sometimes incorporate moving parts
Two of the birds have breaks to the neck which do not spoil the overall effect of this amazing piece.
