Josef Lorenzl - An Art Deco Goldscheider figurine, "Spanischer
Tänzerin", Vienna Austria, designed circa 1928 - depicting a
Spanish dancer wearing a mantilla. Model 5898.
This Lorenzl figurine is inspired by 1921/22 photographs of the
dancer Martha Graham and her dance partner Ted Shawn in "Malagueña"
and was originally produced as a dancing couple with this rarer
single model going into production a year later. This is a
particularly attractive early example with the strong orange colour
of the dress and the 1920s "smudged" eye makeup.
Professional restoration to dress edge nicks.
