as President of The Manchester Academy of Fine Arts.
Norman Clifford Jaques 1922 - 2014. Painter, draughtsman, printmaker
and teacher. Born in Manchester and studied at the College of Art
and Technology, 1937-42. Among his awards were a Royal Manchester
Institute Award; Proctor Travelling Scholarship to Italy and France,
1948, and he was a Giles Bequest Prize winner in block printing,
Victoria & Albert Museum, 1954. Jaques held a senior lectureship
in the faculty of art and design at Manchester Polytechnic, 1950 -
82. He was president of MAFA, 1984-90. He worked in the field of
prints, in which he specialised, illustration and book design. Solo
and group shows included Peterloo Gallery and City Art Gallery, both
in Manchester, Manchester and Salford Universities; Senefelder
Group; Nebraska University Art Gallery; and RA. Victoria and Albert
Museum and public galleries in Manchester, Oldham and Stockport hold
examples.
